Our Story
At K&M Foods, it all begins with the importance of family memories. And the Goldberg family has many, starting with coming to America….
The Traditional Family

Leaving his native Poland for a better life in the U.S., Kadysh Goldberg brought his family of four to Los Angeles in 1963. Like so many immigrants before him, he worked two jobs day and night—quickly winning recognition from his customers as the consummate professional butcher with the fast-disappearing skills and attitude of an old world artisan. Supplying the meat for such acclaimed restaurants as L’Ermitage, Kadysh decided to form his own company to meet the needs of highly trained European chefs in America. And so in 1971,

he founded K&M Meat Company (named in honor of his partnership with his wife, Meri), and in the years that followed he grew his business into one of the industry’s foremost restaurant service providers.

In the summer of 1977 his son, Felix, joined the family business on a part-time basis to give his father the ability to take a few days off each week. Following his father’s early example, Felix took on two jobs. During the day he worked for an accounting firm, and at night he filled in for his dad at K&M. This turned out to be a fortuitous formula for success, and within two years, the father-and-son team expanded K&M’s clients to fifty restaurants and a hotel.

By 1981 Felix joined the business full-time, making a decision to leave the entertainment management firm he’d co-founded. In 1983, when K&M outgrew its facility, he spearheaded the move of its operations to the city of Vernon, where it remains today.


Our Employee Family

K&M is the alternative home for its staff, the nucleus of which has been with the company for 20 years or longer. One reason employees stay so long is that their judgment is highly respected; they’re trusted to make decisions and get their jobs done as they see fit.

For a number of employees, K&M has been their sole employer. It’s not uncommon for a staff member to have joined as a teenager…which means that even though they’ve built on years of experience to meet customer needs, they can still be relatively young—in their late 30’s to early 40’s. Also, in another way, K&M and K&M Foods is literally an extension of existing families, as often employees recruit family members to fill vacancies or new jobs.

Culturally diverse and socially conscious, our employees are encouraged to involve themselves in the community and to bring people together. Knowing that their jobs involve a product that unites people in sitting down together and sharing a meal and making meaningful memories only adds to the satisfaction of working at K&M.

People who work here find it very satisfying to work with high-end chefs and buyers…and be recognized for meeting their needs. It feels good to be part of a family company that’s so highly regarded and singled out for its integrity.
